Celebrating Grand Canyon Regional Finale (GCRF)

PFD Grateful for Community Support of College Rodeo

“Preserving Western heritage through collegiate rodeo” has been a National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) theme for 50 years, and with the help of NIRA Commissioner Jim Dewey Brown, the Grand Canyon Regional Finale (GCRF) for college rodeo was welcomed at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds as a solid success.

GCRF co-leads Katie Ramos and Summer Logan report that there were 2300 tickets sold, 165 college contestants competing, and roughly 75 volunteers from all PFD departments who helped out at the inaugural event. Brown, who also serves as the PFD general manager, was appreciative of the help received and commented, “their help made all the difference; it’s a crucial component in the student athletes’ pathway to professional rodeo events.” 

The GCRF team would like to thank the following sponsors for making this first-time college event in prescott a great success:

Seven colleges from New Mexico and Arizona participated in the events, with athletes from New Mexico State University scoring the most points for men’s teams and the University of Arizona scoring the most points for women’s teams. Additional competing Arizona colleges included Central AZ College, Cochise College, and Dine College. Other New Mexico colleges were Navajo Technical College and Mesalands Community College.
