The thrilling culmination of student athletes’ hard work in their rodeo circuit is happening May 30 through June 2 at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds. Come and join them as they compete at the highest level of competition in their region, across Arizona, and on a national level for thousands of dollars in scholarships.
The purpose of the AHSRA is to promote high school and junior high rodeo on a state-wide scale and work toward bringing state-wide recognition to the sport of rodeo. The AHSRA and AJHSRA strive to promote professional conduct and good sportsmanship at various rodeo events.
They also encourage students to continue in school and to improve his or her education. Like traditional student-athletes, participants in high school rodeo juggle schoolwork and practice. Even with travel and taking care of horses, the athletes somehow make it work.
These events are free to the public. Action begins Thursday, May 30 and ends Sunday, June 2. The first, second, and third rounds of competition happen Thursday through Saturday, with an awards breakfast and cowboy church scheduled for Sunday, June 2nd.
The events you’ll be seeing include bull riding, cowgirls’ barrel racing, goat tying, junior boys’ breakaway, junior boys’ goat tying, junior bull riding, pole bending, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, and tie down roping.
